Tickets-of-Proof are available to any person who can prove descent from a convict. Tickets are also available for, or on behalf of, a relative who can also prove direct descent.

Certificates of Kinship are available if your ancestor has a proven link to a convict e.g. if your ancestor was the brother or sister of a convict, or your ancestor married a convict who was not directly related to you. In effect it is “a convict ancestor by association”.

Procedure for applying for a Ticket-of-Proof:

Fill out an Official Claim Form which must be accompanied by photocopies of “acceptable documentation” for proving direct descent from your convict. Please do not send original documents.

Acceptable Documentation

  • Birth, Death, Marriage records
  • Convict Indents
  • Ticket-of-Leave/Pardon/Certificate of Freedom
  • Census/Muster records
  • Any other documents of proof which you deem relevant.

Please remember that the death certificate of your forebear is important, as is the marriage certificate. The Death Certificate will usually list the names of children, thus showing the next generation from which you are descended.

Proof of arrival in the colony is essential in ALL cases.

Payment must be made before the Tickets-of-Proof are printed.
